A Christian Thanksgiving prayer

Dear Dad,

Thanks for being my Dad, and not just any Dad, but a perfect one who loves me not because I deserve it but because you are good. I ask that you show others how they can trust you as their perfect Dad.

Thanks for being a just Dad, who hates sin and the effects of sin in this world and in my life. I ask that you continually reveal to me my sin and that you show others theirs, and that you continue to remove the effects of sin in this world so that it would look more like how you made it and less like how we’ve ruined it.

Thanks for being a Dad who loved me so much that you sent Jesus like a big brother to make a way for my sins to be forgiven and my broken relationship with you to be fixed. I ask that you help others to understand how great a sacrifice Jesus made for them and how much you want to be their Dad through the work of Jesus on the Cross.

Thanks for my wife, Grace, and my five wonderful children. They are a joy and a great gift. I ask that everyone would take joy in their family and that those who have no family would consider trusting in Jesus as their savior, receiving you as Dad and being adopted into a church family.

Thanks for Mars Hill Church and the 15 years I’ve been able to be a pastor in your church. I love being a pastor and love going to work with my Dad. It’s a joy to see lives changed and thousands come to know Jesus by your grace. I ask that many more people would find the joy that comes from being part of your church family.

Thanks for turkey. It’s a tasty bird. Thanks also for imitation turkey for my vegetarian friends whom I’ll never understand but who at least aren’t deprived of the taste of turkey on Thanksgiving and who leave more turkey for the rest of us.

Your son,

Mark
