Celebrating a birthday, and acknowledging a tragedy, on Sept. 11

From elsewhere in The Post: There were 13,238 babies born ten years ago on Sept. 11. KidsPost spoke with six of them, all D.C. area residents, about their notable birthdays.

“It’s, like, sort of hard to feel sad because it’s the day that I was born, but I still do feel sad,” Gaithersburg resident Juliana Bonilla told reporter Margaret Webb Pressler.

Like Bonilla, many of the kids felt conflicted about celebrating a day when thousands of people died in one of the most tragic attacks on the United States.

But some have learned to embrace the bright side of this year’s birthday.

As District resident Michael Briscoe told Pressler, “I’m going to the double digits!”
