Delay preschool to learn through play at home

One parent delays sending her son because of his late birthday and because “he wants to play at this age, not sit in a chair and spell his name,” says a letter to Family Almanac columnist Marguerite Kelly.

Kelly assures this parent that children learn best through play and developing the young boy’s vocabulary is the best way to prepare him for school.
