One thing to do with kids this weekend: Battle of Bladensburg celebration

The American militia was soundly defeated at the 1814 Battle of Bladensburg, but that won’t stop the town from celebrating its new War of 1812 visitors’ center. A military encampment with musket and cannon demonstrations is the centerpiece of this day of family-friendly activities, including guided boat tours and period music and games.

The free event is from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Battle of Bladensburg Visitors Center, 4601 Annapolis Rd. in Bladensburg. For information call 301-779-0371.
