Get started: Fed survey says economy picked up at end of 2012, new calculation for home-office tax

Fed survey suggests the economy is picking up moderately: The U.S. economy expanded from the middle of November through early January because of holiday shopping, auto sales and a recovering housing market, according to a Federal Reserve survey.

Home-office tax deduction calculation simplified: The IRS announced a new calculation that would simplify the 43-line form for home-office tax deductions. Taxpayers can now deduct up to $5 per square foot up to 300 square feet.
