Get started ‘on’ Nov. 14: Entrepreneurship Celebrations kick off, House debating REIN act

Our daily blend of the latest news, trends and tips for the small business community.

What’s going ‘on’:

Entrepreneurship celebration kicks off: Global Entrepreneurship Week kicks off Monday with events scheduled all across the world to celebrate innovators and job creators. Find out which activities, seminars and competitions are taking place in your community on the GEW Web site and continue checking On Small Business all week for coverage of the events taking place in our nation’s capital.

Mobile job hunting catches on: A new Potential park study shows that job seekers are increasingly turning to their cell phones for help, with 19 percent saying they use their mobile devices for career-related purposes. However, employers have been slower to come on board, with only 7 percent offering a mobile version of their career Web site and merely 3 percent offering a mobile job app.

Keep an eye ‘on’:

GOP lawmakers pondering REIN act: House Republicans this week will consider a bill that would limit the president’s power to enact regulations expected to significantly affect industry and job creation. The proposal would require Congress to approve any executive regulations that are expected to affect American industries by more than $100 million or diminish employment opportunities.

Record IPO week brewing: Nine companies are slated to debut on Wall Street this week, setting us up for the busiest week for initial public offerings in four years. Among the companies planning to go public this week are Angie’s List (ANGI), Delphi Automotive (DLPH) and Manning & Napier (MN) — the latter, a Chinese equivelent to Groupon.
