On Feb. 15: Sequestration threat looms large for small businesses, retail sales rising

Our daily blend of the latest news, trends and tips for the small business community.

What’s going ‘on’:

Retail sales grow in January: Sales rose by 0.1 percent in January, according to the Department of Commerce — the strongest gains were in general merchandise and department stores which both rose more than one percent.

Keep an eye ‘on’:

Some small businesses don’t want SBA loans: One small business owner in New York decided the Small Business Administration’s loans for Hurricane Sandy victims were too expensive because of the accompanying insurance policy.
