Small business lending edges higher: Small business borrowing inched up a modest 3 percent in July after falling five of the previous six months, accoring to the latest monthly figures released by Thompson Reuters and PayNet.

Manufacturing grinding to a halt: American manufacturing activity declined for the third consecutive month in August, mirroring a slowdown taking place across the globe. In China, August marked the first month of manufacturing decline this year.
