At 8:30 a.m. — The Commerce Department releases new-home sales for February. They are projected to have edged up in February, but the 2.1 percent expected gain would be only a partial reversal of a 12.6 percent decline in January. The basic trend is one of sales activity bouncing around at a very low level, judging by historical measures.

At noon — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke speaks to the Independent Community Bankers of America in San Diego on "Community Banking in a Period of Recovery and Change."
