Bloomberg poll sparks more useless pining for ‘President Hillary’

Here we go again. More useless what-if daydreaming about WWHHD: “what would Hillary have done” if she were president. This week’s if-only-thon is courtesy of a Bloomberg poll showing 34 percent of those surveyed believe things would be better in the United States if she were president instead of Barack Obama.

What more must the current secretary of state do to convince folks that she has “below zero” interest in trying to trade her Foggy Bottom office for the Oval Office?

Alison Kosik of CNN: What’s the likelihood that you’re going to challenge President Obama in the primary. You know you’ve got Dick Cheney in your corner?

Secretary Clinton: Oh yeah, it’s below zero. (guffaw)

Clinton later added, “One of the great things about being Secretary of State is I am out of politics” and  “I am not interested in being drawn back into it [politics] by anybody.” This comes almost a year after she said in Bahrain, “I think I'll serve as secretary of state as my last public position.”

Got that, folks?!

Barack Obama is president in the here and now and will need the full attention, support and votes of Democrats if he is to remain so. That’s why this ceaseless pining for an imagined Hillary presidency is growing tiresome. What Democrats should contemplate instead is a “President Romney,” “President Perry” or “President Bachmann.” If that doesn’t act as smelling salts for them nothing will.
