Bravo’s Andy Cohen played his “plead the Fifth” game with President Obama during the big fundraiser in the Big Apple for him last week at the home of Sarah Jessica Parker. As Jonathan Alter reported, there was one question Obama readily used the lifeline for. “Choose an outfit that Michelle wears that you don’t like,” Cohen said. “What is it and why?”
“I plead the fifth!” the president said, to hearty laughter.
“Now I want to know what it is,” Michelle Obama said.
“No way. I’m not crazy,” her husband said.
He’s one to talk! This is the guy who scorched the eyes of a nation last month with that brown suit. And, folks, I’m only bringing it up again because he wore it again.
The Event: The wedding of Laura Jarrett, daughter of senior adviser to the president Valerie Jarrett
The Location: Walking down the street near their home in Chicago.
The Evidence: That light brown suit, white shirt and a yellowish or gold tie.
The Critique: Folks on Twitter alerted me to the president’s repeat offense the moment Politico posted the picture online last weekend. As I tweeted then, “Ok...Clearly, POTUS views that as his weekend, ‘Immabe cool’ suit. #letsgoshoppingBO.”
Now, I will admit something. That brown suit looked much better in Chicago than it did in the Rose Garden. Perhaps it was the lighting. Perhaps it’s the Seurat effect of looking much better from a distance than up close. Or perhaps it was the addition of the white pocket square, which does a great job of giving a visual spark to an otherwise hum-drum outfit. Still, if Cohen were to ask me which suit of the president’s I don’t like, I wouldn’t need to plead the Fifth. Obama ought to retire that suit.
