Hard to believe but New Year’s Eve was on Monday. We bid adieu to 2012 this week as well as the 112th Congress. The former went by just fine. The final moments of the latter were a mess. We had the “fiscal cliff,” a Senate deal brokered by Vice President Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a mini-rebellion against said deal in the House and then its ultimate passage. Meanwhile, Speaker John Boehner hung on like a sail in a hurricane. And he hung on long enough to be reelected speaker of the House. Lucky him.

In other news, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are having a baby, a paparazzo lost his life taking a picture of Justin Bieber’s car, and Psy hinted that his horsy Gangnam Style dance is headed out to pasture. It almost makes you wish the Mayans had been right. Almost.

Sharpen your pixels and get crackin’.
