I’ve grown accustomed to the lunacy that emanates from the far right on Capitol Hill. But a tweet last night from Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Tex.) promoting his new bumper sticker was a jaw-dropper.

Just in case you can’t see the bumper sticker on your mobile device, the bumper sticker reads: “If babies had guns they wouldn’t be aborted. ”

This is not satire, folks. And we shouldn’t expect anything less from a man who invited Obama-hating Ted Nugent to this year’s State of the Union address. But Stockman’s twisted tweet reeks of ignorance that shouldn’t be ignored or written off as the frothing of a madman from a safe district. It also cheapens the very serious debates on both abortion and guns. Not that Stockman cares what anyone else thinks of his musings.

Many folks on the Twitters corrected the congressman by reminding one and all that “babies” are not aborted. Fetuses are. Twitter follower @1SharonGraphics broke it down even further with a reality-based comment. “Stockman wrong, ‘If fetuses had guns . . .,’” she wrote. “Babies already have guns, check weekend news reports of gun fatalities.” There’s nothing left for me to add.
