There’s that tired saying around here that Washington is Hollywood for ugly people. And then the Hill puts out its “50 Most Beautiful” list to bring it all to life. Far be it from me to cast aspersions on someone else’s looks. Without television makeup, I am nothing. Still, there are some folks on the 10th anniversary list who make you call into question the criteria used to make the cut.

Now, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and everyone is beautiful to their parents. But there’s no disagreeing that Sen. Jeff  Flake (R-Ariz.) deserves to be on the list. I would have put Sam Kass in the number-one spot, but that’s just me. The C-Span twins are definitely easy-on-the-eyes, as is everyone in the top 10. Perhaps some of the remaining 40 have an inner beauty the lens can’t detect, especially in the unsmiling ones. Perhaps the Hill should have stopped at 10.
