Have the Republicans finally broken bad for good? For years, there has been a growing strain of denial within the party about the reality facing America on issues like global warming, women’s health, pay equity and fiscal policy. According to the wacko wing of the party, global warming is a liberal plot or not that bad, women don’t need access to abortion or birth control, and tax cuts raise revenues.

Now comes the latest Republican fantasy: The debt limit is no big deal. Here is the “logic”: Since Republicans have shutdown the government, there is all that “extra” money that would normally go to NIH and national parks that can now be re-routed to pay our creditors! And tax receipts can cover a lot of the rest, so all this Democratic worrying is just fear-mongering, you know, like they do on global warming and all the rest. I’ll admit it, I’m scared.
