TROY, Mich.— Ann Romney has some advice for her husband, Mitt, should his quest for the Republican presidential nomination keep dragging on.
“Maybe I should just do all the talking and let him just stand here and watch me,” she said as joined Mitt on stage at a tea party forum here Saturday. “I’ve also decided: No more debates. If we’re going to do another debate, he’s going to sit in the audience and watch me. And that’ll be it.”
Ann Romney is often called Mitt’s secret weapon, and on Saturday she showed why. While her husband has paid homage to his native Michigan by awkwardly observing that “the trees are the right height,” Ann’s references to the state sounded more natural.
“I like to tell people, ‘If you cut us open and we bleed, we bleed Vernor’s,’ ” she said, referencing the old-fashioned local brand of ginger ale. “You gotta know that when you grow up in Michigan, you drink Vernor’s, and the other thing you do is you listen to Tiger baseball.”
