Election 2012: Match the super PAC with the candidate (quiz)

So-called “super PACs” have transformed the political landscape this year, comprising almost half of all spending on TV ads so far in the Republican presidential primary.

The groups, formally known as “independent expenditure-only committees,” came into being after two Supreme Court rulings in 2010; the PACs can accept donations of unlimited size, although they are prohibited from directly coordinating with parties or candidates.

But how to keep track of them all?

Can you match the name of the super PAC to the candidate it supports? (Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)
Does the Restore Our Future PAC support Newt Gingrich? Or was it Rick Santorum? What about the Winning Our Future PAC? And the 9-9-9 Fund? (Okay, maybe that one’s not so tough.)

Take our quiz below and see if you can match up the 12 major super PACs with the candidates they support.
