Gingrich to Occupy protesters: ‘Take a bath’

at 12:05 PM ET, 11/21/2011

Speaking at a “Thanksgiving Table” forum in Iowa this weekend, Newt Gingrich, now a leading GOP candidate for the 2012 presidential nod, had some simple advice for Occupy Wall Street protesters: “Go get a job, right after you take a bath.”

The comments come as the OWS protest movement has hit a roadblock in New York, with Mayor Michael Bloomberg evicting protesters from Zuccotti Park last week and as police officers at UC Davis doused protestors with pepper spray as they sat with their arms intertwined.

Gingrich said that the OWS movement, which he said is premised on the belief that the protesters think they are owed something, is indicative of “how the left has collapsed as a moral system.” The comments drew cheers from the Iowa crowd.
