Is Romney open to a second Wall Street bailout? (Debate video)
Mitt Romney got a tough question on what he would have done in President GeorgeW. Bush’s shoes during a financial crisis at Tuesday’s Washington Post-Bloomberg debate. Balking at the question at first, Romney took the opportunity to boast about his experience in the private sector.
Bloomberg’s Julianna Goldman, one of the debate’s co-moderators, asked Romney what he would do in the event that another financial meltdown occurred during his watch as president in 2013.
“What would you do differently,” she asked, “than what President Bush, Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke did in 2008?”
Romney didn’t seem to want to answer the question, insisting the situation was purely hypothetical. Goldman disagreed.
“You wanna explain why it’s not a hypothetical?” Romney asked her. “Okay.”
