Obama, Romney giving dueling speeches in Ohio | June 14 schedules
President Obama travels to Cleveland Thursday to deliver a speech contrasting his economic agenda with Mitt Romney’s.
The speech, advisers said, will contrast Obama’s efforts to strengthen the middle class — through such initiatives as education programs, the bailout of the auto industry and investment in infrastructure — with what Republican Mitt Romney says he would do as president. Obama is expected to argue that Romney’s proposals to extend and expand tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and to slice deeply into government spending without committing to new revenue, reflect the policies of George W. Bush’s presidency, which ended with huge deficits and a recession.
Romney will make a speech at almost the same time as Obama at a factory in Cincinnati.
Both candidates will be off to fundraisers after that, Romney in Chicago, and Obama in New York at the home of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick and later at the Plaza hotel. Obama will visit the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey before his fundraisers to receive an update on construction progress at One World Trade Center.
