Perry prepares for ad war in Iowa

By ,

Details of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s ad buy are trickling in as all the “not Romney” candidates focus on the Hawkeye state in advance of the Jan. 3 caucuses. Nati Harnik AP GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry, speaks at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition presidential candidate forum, in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011.

Here’s what we know so far from two Republican sources (h/t The Fix)

The Perry campaign (still mum on specifics of the ad buy) has purchased about $175,000 worth of ads that will begin as early as tomorrow, with the bulk of the the 30-second ads starting Wednesday and running through Halloween.

The spots will run in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Sioux City among other markets on broadcast and statewide cable. The dollar amount will likely change. Perry has $15 million cash on hand and has been overtaken in the polls by Herman Cain. These ads will be a first look at his strategy in Iowa, which seems an easy fit for Perry, yet he has struggled to explain his position on immigration on recent trips to Iowa.
