Santorum returns to Pennsylvania on Wisconsin primary night

For the second time in a month, former senator Rick Santorum is returning to his home state of Pennsylvania on a key primary night.

Santorum will hold an event Tuesday night in Mars, Pa., about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh and just south of the GOP hopeful’s hometown of Butler.

The event comes as the latest trio of GOP nominating contests in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia take place. Polls show Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) besting Santorum in Wisconsin and Maryland and also leading in the District, where Santorum failed to make the ballot.

In late March, when Illinois held its nominating contest, Santorum held his primary-night event in Gettysburg, Pa. Romney bested Santorum in the Land of Lincoln by 12 points.

Tuesday’s event most likely won’t be the last primary-night party Santorum holds in Pennsylvania. On April 24, the Keystone State holds its primary, and Santorum has acknowledged that the state is as a must-win for his campaign.

Romney will be holding his primary-night event in Milwaukee.
