Santorum to campaign in Wisconsin this weekend

Former senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) this weekend will make a campaign trip to Wisconsin, a primary state that looks set to be the next big battleground in the GOP nominating fight.

Santorum will arrive in Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon for the Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s Defending the American Dream conference. He then holds two rallies in Sheboygan and Bellevue on Saturday, followed by events in Fond du Lac and Racine on Sunday.

Wisconsin holds its primary is on April 3, the same day that Washington, D.C., and Maryland will conduct their contests. It’s a state where the stakes are particularly high for Santorum, who has argued that he is the candidate best-poised to win in the Midwest (although it’s worth noting that he lost the two key states of Ohio and Michigan to Mitt Romney).

Romney’s wife, Ann, campaigned in the Badger State this week on her husband’s behalf; Mitt Romney is expected to visit the state later this month.
