Tornado warning in effect near Tampa

A tornado warning is in effect for southeastern Hillsborough County. Doppler indicates tornado activity is headed north, not toward downtown Tampa. But the National Weather Service says people in the area should remain alert through the day. The warning is in effect until 2 p.m.

More weather news from the Capital Weather Gang: Large bands of rain  continue to rake across the state as Tropical Storm Isaac pulls away. More isolated embedded tornadoes are possible. Isaac is now in the east-central Gulf of Mexico, poised to become a hurricane.
