Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) came to the floor about 1:30 p.m., surrounded by a gaggle of young people clamoring to have their photos taken with him. As he made his way to the floor, he was greeted with chants of "Ron Paul! Ron Paul!"
Seats in the hall started to fill up for the first time, and the assorted colorful convention characters wandered: an Abraham Lincoln impersonator; men in construction hats, from the West Virginia pro-coal coalition; cowboy-hatted Texans; Wisconsin cheeseheads.
"Let him speak! Let him speak!" -- chant on the convention floor from Paulites.
