Which photos did Barack Obama hang in his Illinois state senate office? And what did George Romney write to cheer a discouraged Mitt during the future presidential candidate's Mormon mission to France? 

PBS has unveiled the last of its 16 "Artifacts of Character" to help readers get to know what the two presidential candidates were like before they became national figures.

David Maraniss, author of “Barack Obama: The Story," and Jason Horowitz, who has covered Romney's life in a series of articles for The Post, are joining other journalists for a discussion Friday afternoon about the artifacts and what they reveal about the two men.

The artifacts were uncovered during research for an upcoming PBS documentary, "The Choice 2012," which will air Oct. 9.
