For all the pre-debate focus on whether moderator Martha Raddatz would address Paul Ryan as "Mr. Ryan" or "Congressman Ryan," Vice President Biden appears to have settled on a different title for his opponent — "my friend."
"I love my friend here," Biden said of Ryan during a heated exchange over the effectiveness of the economic stimulus.
Earlier, during a back-and-forth over foreign policy, Biden interrupted Ryan and told Raddatz, "I don't understand what my friend's talking about here."
Ryan, meanwhile, appears to have decided on calling Biden by his title, "vice president." Biden has also called Ryan "congressman" at points.
"I think the vice president very well knows that sometimes the words don't come out of your mouth the right way," Ryan quipped when Biden raised the issue of Mitt Romney's now-infamous "47 percent" remarks.
