COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Ryan came to the back of the GOP vice-presidential nominee's campaign plane Friday afternoon — but not the one reporters might have been expecting.
Sam Ryan, the candidate's 7-year-old son, paid an unexpected visit to Ryan's traveling press corps on the flight from Louisville, Ky., to Columbus, Ohio.
Clad in a red University of Wisconsin sweatshirt, the youngest member of the Ryan family smiled as he marched down the aisle and waved for a few moments to the three dozen or so reporters, who waved back from their seats.
Did he have fun at last night's debate? one reporter asked. Yes, Sam Ryan replied.
What was he going to be for Halloween? asked another.
"It's a secret," he said, grinning.
What was he last year? "Super Mario."
After a few more minutes, Ryan's traveling spokesman, Michael Steel, who was standing a few paces behind, motioned that the press availability was wrapping up.
"Last question," he said, before the youngest Ryan exchanged a few more words with reporters and then scuttled back toward the front of the plane.
