Report: Obama election night rally at Chicago convention center

President Obama, who four years ago marked his historic election with a sprawling outdoor celebration, will hold his election night rally at Chicago’s McCormick Place, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

The Tribune had no additional information about the Nov. 6 event, but noted:

Given the convention center’s indoor location, the event seems unlikely to match the atmosphere of his 2008 outdoor victory rally in Grant Park.

That event drew an estimated 240,000 people downtown and created picturesque images that were seen worldwide.

The Tribune also noted that McCormick Place will provide provide greater security for the president. The facility was used to host the NATO summit in May, an event that was designated as a “national special security event” by the federal Department of Homeland Security, the Tribune said, adding that Obama’s election night event is expected to receive the same security designation.
