It’s official — both Mitt Romney and President Obama have surpassed the $1 billion mark, if you include the campaigns, political parties and super PACs.
Romney outraised Obama by $21 million in the first half of October, $111.8 million to $90.5 million. Republicans have more cash on hand, at $170 million to Democrats’ $125 million.
Obama has brought in and spent far more through his campaign committee, which allows him to pay less than outside groups for the same ads.
The hefty numbers suggest that neither side is likely to run into a cash crunch in the final 11 days of the race, as both campaigns continue to inundate swing states with broadcast ads, mailers and get-out-the-vote workers. The Obama team also reserved a $15 million line of credit.
