Update: Obama has narrow edge in swing state papers

Poynter has a rundown of presidential endorsements from the largest swing state newspapers and finds that Mitt Romney leads President Obama 11 to eight. But that count does not include Pennsylvania papers, along with many smaller papers in swing states.

A more complete swing state daily paper count finds 26 swing-state papers backing Obama and 21 backing Romney. Seven swing state papers tallied by the Post flipped from backing Obama in 2008 to endorsing Romney in 2012; one paper that supported Sen. John McCain in 2008 now backs Obama.

Looking only at papers with circulation above 100,000 we find 15 papers for Obama and 11 for Romney.

Which way did newspaper editorial boards go? Here’s who was picked by a selection of newspapers and what arguments were used. We’ll also show, in parentheses, who they endorsed in 2008.
