Jeff Flake wins Arizona Senate race

Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) defeated former Surgeon General Richard Carmona and will be the state's next senator. 

Flake, known for his staunch opposition to earmarks, will retiring Sen. Jon Kyl (R). Carmona, who served under President George W. Bush, proved a surprisingly tough candidate who carefully modulated his image as independent. But Flake fought back hard, and ultimately Carmona couldn't overcome the Republican tilt in the state.
