Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) will keep his post as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that she would stay in her job as long as Israel agreed to stay in his, according to a Democrat in the room, and the New York congressman accepted.
Democrats had hoped to take back the House in the 2012 cycle, a feat that would have required winning 25 seats. They gained seats (some races have yet to be called) and won the popular vote but fell far short of that goal.
“Everything that was in our control, we exceeded expectations,” Israel told The Fix last week. “The one thing that we didn’t have control over was a very tight presidential election.”
