Obama wants Debbie Wasserman Schultz to stay on as DNC chair

President Obama will ask the Democratic National Committee to reappoint Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) as chairwoman, according to a senior Democratic official.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's decision to stay in her post effectively froze Democratic leadership, giving Wasserman Schultz and other would-be leaders from a younger generation no chance to move up.

There were reportedly tensions between the Obama campaign and Wasserman Schultz over messaging during the campaign. But a senior Democratic official told Politico that the congresswoman did an "outstanding job," helping the party keep the presidency and the Senate while picking up seats in the House.
