It’s over. The mustache is gone.
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday, senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod lost his 40-years-in-the-making facial hair.

Axelrod bet “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough that President Obama would win Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania, putting his mustache on the line. The Democratic strategist won, but he then offered to shave anyway if viewers raised $1 million in a month for Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE). Axelrod’s daughter has epilepsy; his wife Susan (who joined him on the “Morning Joe” set) chairs CURE.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski took the first swing, cheerfully telling her victim, “I’ve never done this before.” But a barber did the actual work. “I’m grateful for a professional,” Axelrod said. Forty years ago, he said, there was a scar under the ‘stache.
“I’m very attached to it,” Axelrod said. “I was up all night, to be honest with you. It’s a little unsettling.” But, he emphasized, it was for a good cause. Among the contributors: both Donald Trump and President Obama.

As the loser in that bet, Scarborough was supposed to grow a mustache — he bought his way out of it by personally donating $10,000 to epilepsy research.
