Obama to deliver statement

December 28, 2012

President Obama will speak from the Brady Press Briefing Room at 5:45 p.m., his first public comments in the wake of a high-stakes afternoon meeting with congressional leaders.

In the meeting, Obama called on Republican leaders to support his plan to let taxes rise on income over $250,000 a year or to offer a clear alternative for averting the year-end “fiscal cliff” that could win Democratic support. He did not offer a new deal, as was apparently expected by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
