Two Democrats, two opinions

Will there be a deal? Two Democratic senators express different opinions.

Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.): “We’re a ways apart. Quite frankly at the end, we’ve got to have, any proposal that’s agreed to has to reduce the debt and it doesn’t do it, not the Republican proposal."

”“I’m not optimistic,” he added.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.): “There’s always a chance. There’s always a chance and those of you who’ve been here for more than 15 minutes know that we always wait until the last minute and we usually split the difference.”

Asked about the fact that many Americans are likely looking at Congress this weekend with disdain, Durbin agreed, "It looks awful. I’m sure the American people are saying, with so much at stake, why are they waiting so late to get this done? And I’ll tell you, it’s human nature. It’s the reason that there are so many people filing income tax returns on April 15th, it’s the reason why we put off our trips to the dentist. When it’s something painful, we put it off to the last minute and this is a pretty painful exercise.”
