‘Fiscal cliff’ timetable today

House Democrats will meet today behind closed doors at noon, and Republicans will gather at 1 p.m. to review the terms of a deal struck in the Senate early this morning to take the sting out of the fiscal cliff.

The bill, approved by the Senate on an 89-to-8 vote at 2:30 a.m., would reverse income tax hikes that went into effect today for those making less than $400,000 a year and delay automatic spending cuts for two months. The closed-door meetings will be the first chance for leaders to assess the likelihood of House passage for the deal.
