Senate Democrats unveil sequester plan with little hope of passage

Senate Democrats unveiled a plan Thursday to cancel automatic spending cuts known as the sequester through the end of this year. But they acknowledged that the proposal has little chance of passing, leaving no clear path to prevent the sequester from striking on March 1.

The Senate proposal calls for about $110 billion in alternate savings to replace deep cuts to the Pentagon and other agency budgets through January 2014.
