David Axelrod joins NBC News, MSNBC

February 19, 2013

David Axelrod, one of the chief architects of President Obama's two presidential campaigns, is joining NBC News and MSNBC as a senior political analyst.

In addition to his campaign work, Axelrod served as a senior adviser in the White House for two years in Obama's first term. He left the administration to begin preparing for the president's reelection campaign.

Axelrod is already a frequent MSNBC guest; he shaved off his mustache on "Morning Joe" last year as part of a drive to raise money for epilepsy research.

Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has also joined NBC News and MSNBC as a contributor.

Rachel Weiner covers local politics for The Washington Post.
