The White House has released a photograph of President Obama working on his second inaugural address:
For example, “for blood and ___” in the handwritten notes became “through blood drawn by lash, and blood drawn by sword” in the final version, a more explicit reference to Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address. “Self-government” in the written version Obama is editing in the photo became “ a government of, and by, and for the people,” a reference to the Gettysburg Address.
Obama worked on the speech with lead speechwriter Jon Favreau, according to the White House release. Favreau is leaving the White House at the end of the month; he will be replaced by his deputy, Cody Keenan.
