Governors gather in D.C. for NGA winter meeting

Governors from around the country will trickle into Washington on Friday for this weekend’s National Governors Association winter meeting, as many of them are preparing to deal with the March 1 federal spending cuts known as the sequester.

Here’s a look at the schedule of events for the governors over the next couple of days:

On Friday: Democratic Governors Associaton Chairman Peter Shumlin (Vt.) is speaking Friday morning at the Politico State Solutions Conference. Govs. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), Bill Haslam (R-Tenn.), Dan Malloy (D-Conn.) and  Scott Walker (R-Wisc.) will speak at the conference at 3 p.m. Watch live here.

Members of the DGA will meet with President Obama and Vice President Biden at 11 a.m. at the White House.

On Saturday: The meeting’s opening sessions include panels on business, cybersecurity and employing persons with disabilities.

On Sunday: The governors will fan out to Sunday news shows. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) and Deval Patrick (R-Mass.) will be on NBC’s Meet the Press. Martin O’Malley (D-Md.), Bob McDonnell (R-Va.), Jan Brewer (R-Ariz.) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) will go on CBS’s Face the Nation. Jack Markell (D-Del.) and Wisconsin’s Walker will appear on Fox News Sunday.

President Obama will host a reception for the governors at the White House on Sunday evening.

On Monday: The governors will hear from television star health guru Dr. Mehmet Oz before another final meeting at the White House.
