Lew confirmed by Senate Finance Committee

February 26, 2013

The Senate Finance Committee voted 19-5 Tuesday to confirm Jack Lew, President Obama's nominee for Treasury secretary, sending his nomination to a vote before the full Senate.

Six Republicans voted in favor of Lew's nomination, including ranking member Orrin Hatch of Utah while five were against.

Lew faced tough questions during his confirmation hearing about the time he spent as an executive at Citibank. If confirmed, he will succeed Timothy Geithner at the Treasury Department.
