Rep. Keith Ellison to Hannity: ‘You are the worst excuse for a journalist’

February 27, 2013

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and conservative talk show host Sean Hannity on Tuesday night got into one of the tensest exchanges you'll see on cable news, with Ellison calling the Fox News host the "worst excuse for a journalist I've ever seen."

Coming on the show to talk about the sequester, Ellison was ready for battle immediately. After previously running a video of President Obama's remarks on the sequester, Hannity suggested the Democratic Party was good at staying on message.

"You're pretty good at it too." Ellison said. "Quite frankly, you are the worst excuse for a journalist I've ever seen. It's absurd that you -- the worst."

After a bit of crosstalk, Ellison continued.

"What you just displayed was not journalism; it was yellow journalism. It wasn't anything close to trying to tell the American people what's really going on," he said, accusing Hannity of using suggestive background music when playing video of Obama.

"Every journalistic ethic I have ever heard of was just violated by you," Ellison said.

After Hannity let Ellison talk for a few minutes, the interview devolved even further, with Ellison talking over Hannity whenever Hannity tried to interject and sometimes repeating what Hannity said.
