Elizabeth Colbert Busch (D), better known as the sister of Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert, is out with her first ad in the South Carolina special election for the state’s 1st U.S. House district.
The 30-second ad focuses on Colbert Busch’s business acumen. As she walks along Charleston’s port, she touts her experience as director of sales and marketing at a shipping company and director of business development at a former naval shipyard.
“I’ve spent 20 years using our ports to create jobs selling American products made by American workers,” Colbert Busch says. “I’m not going to talk about the jobs that we lost. I know what it takes to create new jobs.”
It’s a sober spot, with no sign of her brother’s absurdist humor. Although Republicans are favored in this conservative district, given the unpredictable nature of special elections, the Democrat does have a chance at victory.
