Former Florida senator and governor Bob Graham's (D) daughter is joining the family business, launching a campaign for Congress against Rep. Steve Southerland (R-Fla.).
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Congress is a dysfunctional mess," Gwen Graham said in announcing her candidacy. "They’d rather fight each other with the goal of scoring points on cable news instead of focusing on creating jobs and balancing the budget. In fact, Congress hasn’t even passed a budget since Bobby Bowden was (football) coach at FSU."
Graham, a lawyer who works for the Leon County school district, pitches herself as an independent voice for northern Florida.
Southerland won his Tallahassee-based district in 2010 and survived a tight race in 2012, beating former state senator Al Lawson (D) by six points. The district went for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney by a similar margin.
