On the eve of the Election Day in Massachusetts, a new poll shows Rep. Ed Markey (D) with a 10-point lead over former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez (R), suggesting Gomez has not made up ground on the Democrat in the past two weeks.
Markey leads Gomez 52 percent to 42 percent in the Suffolk University survey, which was conducted Wednesday through Saturday. The previous Suffolk poll, conducted June 6-9, showed Markey leading Gomez by 7 points.
“These numbers suggest that tomorrow night Ed Markey will make the transformation from congressman to senator-elect,” said Suffolk pollster David Paleologos.
The Suffolk poll shows that few voters (about a quarter) tuned in for the final debate last week. Voters are split over who won the debate, the survey shows.
Markey has been getting help from some high-profile Democrats and Democratic-aligned organizations in recent weeks, while Gomez has received scant support from Republican-allied groups. President Obama and Vice President Biden were recently in the state to stump for Markey.
