Former president Bill Clinton, in an interview airing Tuesday, declined to comment on the New York mayoral race, where Anthony Weiner's embattled campaign has proven a headache for the Clintons.
Bill Clinton stressed to CNN that his family has ties to other candidates as well -- not just Weiner, who is married to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton.
"Neither Hillary or I was ever involved in the political campaign, and they understood that from the beginning," he said. "There are too many people running for mayor who have been my supporters, who supported her for senator, her for president.
"The feelings I have are all personal and, since they are, I shouldn't talk about them."
Clinton mentioned the Public Advocate Bill de Blasio was Hillary Clinton's campaign manager for her 2000 Senate campaign.
He said that "there are literally five people in that race, including one of the Republican candidates, Mr. (John) Catsimatidis, who are personal friends of ours."
"So we are a hundred miles from that race," Clinton said. "And everyone understands that we aren't going to be involved."
