Chelsea Clinton says she wants a baby in 2014

October 2, 2013

Chelsea Clinton said in an interview published Wednesday that she wants to start a family with her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, and that the two have talked about having a child in 2014.

In an interview with Glamour magazine, the daughter of the former president and the former secretary of state recalled a conversation she had with her husband after her maternal grandmother's death in late 2011. "We sat down and said, 'Here's what we want to do.' The first thing on the list was simple: We want, God willing, to start a family. So we decided we were going to make 2014 the Year of the Baby," Clinton said. She told the interviewer to please "call my mother and tell her that. She asks us about it every single day."

Clinton, 33, also opened up to Glamour about her career. She recently became the vice chairwoman of the newly rechristened Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.Years of working on Wall Street before that had left her unfulfilled, she said.

"I loved the meritocracy of it and the camaraderie of the trading floor," she said. "There was one metric for success: Did you make or lose money? I think we need to care about the metrics of success in life, and I'm a pretty competitive person. But whether I made the company $2 or $2 million just didn't matter to me. I didn't fundamentally care about making money."

Clinton said in an August interview that she is open to the idea of running for office in the future. The Fix recently took a look at a few logical possibilities.
