Democrats sweep September fundraising

Democratic party committees swept the fundraising battle in August, with the party's national, House and Senate committees all outraising their GOP counterparts.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had the best month of all, outraising the National Republican Congressional Committee by more than $3 million, $8.4 million to $5.3 million.

The DCCC, which has outraised the NRCC $58.2 million to $42.6 million this year, also has an edge in cash on hand, $21.6 million to $15.7 million.

As for the national party committees, the Democratic National Committee did something it rarely does by outraising the Republican National Committee, $7.4 million to $7.1 million.

The DNC continued to struggle mightily to pay down its debt from the 2012 election, though. While the RNC has $11.2 million in the bank and no debt, the DNC has far less cash ($5.5 million) than debt ($17.5 million). The DNC has paid down just $3 million worth of debt this entire year.

As for the Senate committees, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee outraised the National Republican Senatorial Committee, $4.6 million to $3.4 million.

As with its House counterpart, the DSCC has far outraised the NRSC this year, $38.6 million to to $25.6 million. The two committees are on similar financial footing, though, owing to the DSCC having gone further into debt in the 2012 election.
